    Starts: 12:00 am
    Ends: June 1, 2016 - 12:00 am
Description: LOOK OUT! Horizon Honors Elementary Water Day 2016 is just around the corner! Students (K-6th) will be participating in Water Day on Tuesday, May 31st during their entire Specials block. Students will be able to get wet and have some fun! Please see the times for each class below:
    Grades 1-2 from 10 - 11:15 a.m.
    Grades 3-4 from 11:20 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
    Grades 5-6 from 12:55 - 2:20 p.m.
    Kindergarten from 2:20 - 2:50 p.m.
Students are required to bring a beach towel and a dry set of clothes to change into, this includes dry shoes!! Students may wear their swimsuit under the clothes they intend to get wet in. They will change into their dry clothing after their water day activities. A separate bag to put wet clothing, shoes and swimsuit in is encouraged, along with a water bottle to stay hydrated. Students must have school appropriate clothes and shoes for both during water day activities and after, this means NO FLIP FLOPS or spaghetti straps! Swimsuits may not be worn alone.

Girls are to wear a one piece swimsuit under a t-shirt and shorts (neither can be white) and shoes that have backs (aqua socks are a great choice). Boys are to wear swim trunks and a shirt (not white) and shoes that have backs (aqua socks are a great choice). Water day is a dress down day!

We encourage parents to come out and have fun with our students, but we also are in need of some volunteers to help make this a success! If you would like to volunteer for Water Day 2016, please sign-up on Volunteerspot and scroll down to your classroom and click on the date. Be prepared to get wet!

    Paleta Treat
We will be pre-selling paletas again this year for Water Day, Tuesday, May 31st. A paleta is a Latin American treat that is an ice-pop made with fresh fruit, milk or water. There will be a milk based paleta, cookies-n-cream. The water based choices are strawberry and watermelon. Each paleta costs $1.00. Students and parents interested in purchasing a paleta will need to give their teacher their flavor choice and money. Please turn your order into your classroom teachers Monday, May 16th - Monday, May 23rd so that we can pass the order along to our vendor.

Thank you in advance for helping to make this addition to Water Day a success! Please contact your student's Physical Education teacher with questions.

NEWS

Changes to Parking & Traffic Plans

We were informed yesterday that our new neighbors, Mountain Park Community Church, will start construction next week on their campus. This means that our South Parking Lot, located across the street from our campus off of Frye Road, will be reduced in size to approximately 100 parking spaces. This news brings several changes to our parking and traffic plans. Effective Wednesday, May 18: The South Parking Lot will only be accessible via ONE ENTRANCE, off of 50th Street. The entrance on Frye Road (across from the Secondary School) will be fenced. There will no longer be a cross walk on Frye Road near the west side of campus/Secondary School Office.  To cross Frye Road, you must use the cross walk near the east side of campus/Elementary School. There will no longer be any reserved (red bumper) parking spaces in the South Parking Lot. All spaces will be available for use. We ask that all Horizon Honors community members do the following: For safety reasons, only cross in designated crosswalks. Follow instructions from crossing guards and parking attendants. Utilize the Church Parking Lot, located just north of our campus, for additional parking.  Give yourself extra time in the morning and afternoon to navigate the changes in traffic flow. Stay clear of construction zones, construction fencing, and construction equipment. Regarding future construction plans: Horizon Honors should be able to continue to utilize the 100 spots in the South Parking Lot through the end of 2016. Frye Road improvements are scheduled during the Summer Break as not to further impede traffic flow. The church is scheduled to open June 2017. We look forward to a...

Key Facts on Prop. 123

I wanted to share some important information about Proposition 123, an initiative that will be on the ballot on May 17. Many of you have asked questions and/or advice on how to vote. We appreciate your interest in this important initiative. Please understand that Horizon Honors staff members are required to stay within the bounds of law A.R.S. § 15-511, which prohibits school employees from using school resources to influence the outcome of an election. However, we can share some key facts about Proposition 123, courtesy of Arizona Charter Schools Association…
