This morning we held a pre-planned lockdown drill. A lockdown is utilized when a threat is known to be inside school grounds. All internal and external doors are locked and community members find a safe place inside a secured room. Students and staff that are outside on our campus leave the campus and move towards a safe, indoor location. Classes at Pecos Park move inside the Pecos Park Recreation Center. Today’s drill lasted approximately 5 minutes and then classes resumed normal activities.
It is important to routinely practice safety procedures with all community members in the event of an emergency situation. Information about the drill is communicated to students in an age-appropriate way, with teachers paying special attention not to alarm younger students…
As we celebrate our 20th year as a school the Horizon Honors High School Student Council is excited to start a new tradition, Relay For Life. In partnership with the American Cancer Society, Horizon Honors will host its first Relay For Life event on Friday, February 19th from 6 p.m.-midnight. The event will be hosted on-campus and in keeping with the mission of Relay For Life will celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those we have lost to the disease, those who are currently fighting, and join in the fight through our fundraising efforts. The decision to be a part of the Relay For Life mission came about due to the commitment to service that Secondary students are encouraged to demonstrate and the fact that all of our lives are in some way touched by this disease. As a community, we have felt the effects of it with the loss of our founders to cancer and the many community members who have fought back against the disease or served as a caregiver for a loved one…
