Horizon Community Learning Center Corporate Information

Governance
Horizon Community Learning Center is organized to maximize the involvement of all stakeholders including students, parents, support staff, teachers, administrators, school board members and the community. HCLC's approach of ownership by each of these stakeholders emphasizes a shared process with a sincere commitment to decision making by consensus.

Form of Business
HCLC operates as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and has formed a corporation in the state of Arizona. The governing body for the corporation is the Corporate Board of Directors and the governing board for the school is the School Board.

Charter Sponsorship
HCLC is chartered by the Arizona Board for Charter Schools.

Corporate Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is comprised of four members:
  • Larry Pieratt, President
  • Fred Neal, Vice President
  • Steve Holm, Secretary/Treasurer
  • Jan Gleeson, Member
These members are the founding members of the organization. The Board of Directors holds the school's charter and is the final authority for all legal and business operations.

School Board
The School Board is comprised of four members:
  • Steve Holm, President
  • Fred Neal, Vice President
  • Robert Descheemaker, Member
  • Alan Fennig, Member
The Corporate Board of Directors appoints the board members annually. The School Board is responsible for the oversight of the school's programs and operation including all student, personnel and financial responsibilities.

School Board Meetings are held once a month at 7 p.m. in the HCLC Main Office on the following dates:
