Who may enroll at HCLC?
HCLC is open to all K-12 students residing in Arizona. Enrollment is not limited based upon ethnicity, national origin, gender, and income level, disabling condition, proficiency in the English language or athletic ability.
Please note their are some age requirements:
Pre-Kindergarten students must turn 4 years old on or by August 31, 2010
Kindergarten students must turn 5 years old on or by August 31, 2010
1st Grader students must turn 6 years old on or by August 31, 2010
How do I enroll my student at HCLC?
To apply for enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year, parents must submit a Lottery Form for their student. Should more students complete Lottery Forms than there are spaces available for the next school year, a Lottery will be held. Lottery forms are available at our 2011-2012 Orientations.
How does the Lottery work?
The Lottery will determine the students to be enrolled in the spaces available and the order of the waiting list for each grade level. During the Lottery process, a computer program generates a list of participating Lottery students in random name order for each grade level. These lists are then used to assign available spaces. For example, 30 fourth grade students participate in the Lottery, and there are 25 spaces available. The first 25 students on the computer-generated list will receive a space. The last 5 students will remain on a waiting list in the order that the computer generated the names.
How many spaces are available at each grade level?
Because the number of open spaces fluctuates daily and varies by grade level, we cannot tell prospective families in advance the number of spaces at each grade level.
When is the Lottery?
The Lottery has not yet been scheduled. Please come back to this page for updates. You do NOT have to be present at the Lottery.
How will I know if my student has received a space or is on a waiting list?
HCLC staff members will begin calling parents of students who receive a space the day after the Lottery. Those on the waiting list will receive an e-mail and/or letter in the mail.
What do I do if my student receives a space?
Congratulations, your student is now allowed to register at HCLC for the 2011-2012 school year! After being contacted by HCLC, you will have 24 hours to accept your space, and 48 hours to submit your paperwork, including birth certificate, registration form, and immunization records.
What if my student is on the waiting list?
When a space becomes available, the parents of the first student on the waiting list will be called. If that student declines his/her space, then the next student will be called, etc. Students will remain on the waiting list for the entire 2011-2012 school year. Families who do not receive a spot during the 2011-2012 school year must complete the enrollment process again for the 2012-2013 school year.
What if one of my students receives a spot, but a sibling is on the waiting list?
HCLC expects a high level of parental involvement in the learning process. In recognition of this commitment, enrollment preference is given to siblings of students enrolled in HCLC if there is space available.
Can my child be on the waiting list at a grade higher/lower based on his/her ability level instead of age?
Students are placed on the waiting list according to age, the last grade completed, and pre-assessment scores.
Why doesn’t the waiting list roll over from year to year?
The waiting list restarts every year for a number of reasons. We are not always sure if families are still interested in HCLC for the following school year. We also make changes to curriculum, activities, etc. and want to make sure that families come to an Orientation, get notified of the changes, and then complete a Lottery Form. Finally, having a Lottery each year is the only fair way to guarantee space availability.
What if I do not complete the Lottery Form before the Lottery?
Students who complete their forms after the Lottery will be placed on the waiting list.
