The state of Arizona offers all residents the exciting opportunity to support Horizon Community Learning Center through the Arizona School Tax Credit Program.
• Single income tax filers can pay $200 to HCLC; joint filers may pay $400.
• Tax credits can be paid at one-time or in installments.
• All tax credits must be received or postmarked no later than December 31, 2011.
• This is a CREDIT on your income taxes, which means you get every dollar back on your state return, whether you owe money to the state or the state owes you!
• You may also be able to use the tax credit as a deduction on your federal income taxes. Consult your tax advisor.
• If you are an HCLC parent, and you pay activity fees, these fees qualify for the tax credit as well!
• Even if residents do not have children, as long as they pay taxes, they are eligible to pay their tax credit to HCLC.
Anyone who is an Arizona resident can participate in this program. So, ask grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, co-workers, and friends to help!
What do I have to do to qualify for this credit?
To qualify for this credit, you must make cash contributions or pay fees to HCLC for the support of extra-curricular activities.
What is the maximum dollar amount of the credit?
For single taxpayers or heads of household, the credit cannot exceed $200. For married taxpayers that file a joint return, the credit cannot exceed $400. If married taxpayers file separate returns, each spouse can claim half of the credit that would have been allowed on a joint return.
Will I qualify for the credit if I pay fees for my own child to participate in an extra curricular activity?
If you pay the annual student fee for your child, you will qualify for the credit.
According to what I have read, if I give my tax credit to HCLC, I will receive a credit on my Arizona state taxes, dollar for dollar. What is the catch?
There is no catch to this program! You will receive a credit, dollar for dollar, as long as you pay AZ state income taxes!
What if I don’t have children at HCLC?
You can still pay your tax credit. In addition, family members, neighbors, friends, and co-workers can pay their tax credits as long as they are Arizona residents.
