Students receive all core academic classes from teachers who specialize in their content area. All students rotate through a block schedule of mathematics, English, social studies, science, and Integrated Studies. Students may also choose to take either band, chorus, physical education, or Spanish.
The project groups experienced in both the elementary and intermediate schools become a formal class in Middle School called integrated studies. The focus of Integrated Studies is to continue to provide a format where students use everyday learning in all their courses but to also apply it to solving real problems found in the community and the world beyond. The projects will require the students to go outside the classroom to do research and to interact with community and business leaders. This process greatly enhances their ability to grow and work as leaders upon graduation.
The academic focus for the Middle School is preparation for success in high school. Students have the opportunity to take high school courses in mathematics and Spanish. Additional honors courses are available in mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish and English. The honors classes include instruction at an accelerated level with an emphasis in preparation for high school advanced placement course work.
Horizon Honors Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports throughout the year. Students compete in the same sports and against the same schools as the Horizon Honors High School athletic program.
