GivingTuesday 2025

Thank you for your generosity during Giving Tuesday! We are thrilled to share that we raised $20,475. Your kindness helped us exceed our goal and fully fund Tier 2 of our campus improvement project.

Because of you, we will now move forward with installing outdoor learning turf and heavy-duty, weather-resistant picnic tables in the Gym Courtyard, creating flexible spaces for community gatherings. This is an investment in our students’ daily experience, and it would not have been possible without your partnership.

We are grateful for every gift that helped make this campaign such a success. Thank you for believing in Horizon Honors and for continuing to help us build spaces where students can thrive. We are honored to have your support.

Horizon Honors Schools Earn “A” Ratings from AZ Dept. of Education!

The Arizona Department of Education has released the 2024-2025 school letter grades, and both Horizon Honors Elementary School and Horizon Honors Secondary School earned an A rating!

Arizona’s school letter grade system looks at multiple measures of school performance, including:

Student growth from year to year
Proficiency on statewide assessments
English language proficiency and growth
Indicators of readiness for the next grade level
High School graduation rates

Only about one in five school districts across Arizona received an A rating. We are proud to be among the schools recognized for excellence and growth.

Thank you to every student who worked hard, every family who supported learning at home, and every staff member who brings passion, care, and high expectations to our campus each day. This accomplishment belongs to our entire Horizon Honors community.

LUNCH PROGRAM FAQ:

What if I need to change, cancel, or forgot an order?
Changes can be made prior to the ordering deadline, 11 AM on the day prior to the meal delivery. Once the ordering period has closed, late orders are not accepted, and no changes are allowed.

What if my student is sick?
If your child is home sick and won’t need lunch, email customercare@dishes2u.com before 7 AM on the delivery day to receive a full credit. Please include your student’s name and school.

Note: Credits cannot be issued after 7 AM since meals are already prepared. Also, there’s a limit of 4 credits per student per month for cancellations after the ordering deadline, and no credits are given for missed meals after 7:01 AM due to illness or appointments.

What if my child is absent/has an appointment during their lunch time and I did not cancel the lunch before 7 AM?
If you do not cancel prior to 7 AM or would like to make additional arrangements, you are welcome to email lunches@horizonhonors.org to arrange for:
a) a sibling/or student to receive the lunch
b) a parent to pick up lunch during lunch period.

If no arrangements are made by 11 AM, the lunch will be donated to a student in need or the Staff lounge.

When can orders be placed?
As soon as the menu is released, you can order lunches for the entire cycle. However, an advance purchase is required.

All orders must be placed by 11 AM the day prior to delivery of the meal. So, for a Monday meal delivery, all orders must be in no later than 11 AM on Sunday.

How often are the menu’s cycles posted?
Dishes2U uploads new menu cycles and calendars four times a year.

How do I buy a teacher a lunch?
Parents will be able to show their appreciation to a teacher or staff member by purchasing a lunch for them.

Is there a minimum order fee?
A check out with a minimum of $10 in your shopping cart is required for all new or changed orders – all orders not meeting the minimum will be charged a $1.00 handling fee. Please note, this is NOT $10 per lunch or even $10 per day, just $10 in your shopping cart when checking out, for a total of all your children.

Individual Learning Plan Conferences

At Horizon Honors, we believe student success is built on a strong partnership between students, parents, and teachers. One of the most important ways we nurture that connection is through our Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) Conferences.

During each ILP Conference, students, families, and teachers work together to create and update a personalized plan for the quarter. This Individual Learning Plan outlines the academic and social learning goals each student is expected to achieve, along with strategies and support to help them get there. Conferences also provide an opportunity to review progress, celebrate successes, and set new goals for the months ahead.

Participation is expected for all students, and the involvement of both students and parents is essential to the process. Your voice and commitment help ensure each plan truly reflects the student’s strengths, needs, and aspirations.

Powerschool for parents allows you to view your child’s schedule, assignments, and grades. Please check Powerschool regularly for all students in grades K-12.

Teacher assignments and/or student schedules for the 2025-2026 school year are now available on PowerSchool.

- New families may setup their PowerSchool account at https://horizonclc.powerschool.com/public/create_multi_student_account.html? using the instruction sheets they received during the registration process.

- Click on Account Preferences, located on the menu bar on the left
- At the Account Preferences screen, click on the Students tab
- Once you are in the Students tab, you will see the name of the student(s) you currently have associated with your account
- A window will appear. Enter the information for your student in this area using the instruction sheets you received during the registration process. Click on Submit when you are done

Horizon Honors once again cleaned up in the annual "Best of Ahwatukee" awards, taking the following categories:

Best Charter School
"Our readers' top choice among charter schools, Horizon Honors is really two schools in one: Horizon Elementary School (grade k-6) and Horizon High School (grades 7-12). Both share the same philosophy of helping its more than 1,550 students achieve academic and social excellence while solving real-life problems in a cooperative manner. Horizon Honors, which first opened its schools in 1996, is tuition free and has been recognized for its excellence with multiple awards."
Best Elementary/Middle School Teacher - Julie Moses

"Teacher Julie Moses, originally from Iowa, has been an educator at Horizon Honors Elementary School for 16 years. She has worked with third- and fourth- grade children throughout her entire career. Prior to her time at Horizon Honors she taught in South Korea for one year. Moses strives to create a calm presence in the classroom so students feel safe to be themselves. 'As a teacher, I love to challenge my students academically as well as helping to guide my students toward being their best selves,' she said. 'Seeing students interact with one another using the tools they are being taught in real-life situations is very rewarding.'"
Best High School Teacher - Chris Henderson

"Horizon Honors math teacher Chris Henderson believes students learn best through doing. He challenges students to think and problem-solve for themselves rather than simply copying his route to solving equations in his honors college algebra, AP precalculus and college math foundations courses. His goal is to instill in students an understanding that it is OK to seek help and ask questions when they do not know the answer to something. He has spent six of his 12 years as a teacher at Horizon, where he also serves as the school's head coach for varsity basketball."
